Wade hoping to make No.6 position his

Matthew-WadeSydney, Jan 1 : Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade is hoping to cement the No. 6 position in the Australian Test squad as his, despite knowing that it is usually reserved for specialist batsman.

Wade will be thrust into the key role for the final Test against Sri Lanka at the SCG as Shane Watson has been ruled out through injury and rookie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell preferred at No. 7.

He said that he has been lucky to bat at six for Victoria for a couple of years, but did not think it would make too much of a difference coming one up the order.

He said that his objective was to contribute runs to the team. According to news. com. au, Wade said if he was to assume the position long-term and struggled to balance his wicketkeeping and batting preparations, he would consult former keeper Adam Gilchrist. (ANI)
