Melbourne, Dec 13 : Western Australia and Victoria believe that they have missed out on a minimum of 600,000 Australian dollars and will ask Cricket Australia for compensation following the cancellation of the inaugural Champions League Twenty20 tournament in India.

Tournament officials decided on Friday not to stage the event, which was cancelled due to the Mumbai terrorist attacks. The tournament will now be held in October 2009.

Victoria chief executive Tony Dodemaide and his WA counterpart Graeme Wood revealed each association would lose more than 600,000 dollars in revenue after the tournament, which was scheduled to be played from December 3-10, was scrapped following last month's terror attacks in Mumbai.

WA and Victoria will have to attempt to re-qualify for the 2009 edition by finishing either first or second in this summer's Australian domestic Twenty20 series, which involves the six state sides from December 26 to January 24, The Age reported.

The Champions League Twenty20 tournament, which carries a combined prize money of 8.93 million dollars, will be held in October next year.

Dodemaide, who said Cricket Victoria had already spent at least 50,000 dollars on various costs associated with entering the tournament, felt some form of compensation should be made available. (ANI)
