Vodafone UK records 4.5% fall in revenues
The British unit of the global telecom service provider, Vodafone has said that its revenues have fallen 4.5 per cent to £1.52 billion during the three month period till June in the UK.
The world’s second-biggest mobile operator said that the customers in the UK are spending little extra besides their fixed payment plans by making no extra calls or sending messages besides what is allotted to them under their chosen plans. The high level of competition and weak consumer confidence are affecting operations in the telecom firm’s home country.
The company said that its out-of-bundle spending, which is charges levied on customers going beyond their plans, has fallen 7 per cent while in-bundle services rose 1.5 per cent as the company convinced customers to move to the new Vodafone Red tariff that includes more calls, texts and data.
Vodafone said that the UK market is a part of the highly competitive northern and central Europe including Germany, where the company’s revenues fell 5.1 per cent during the period. The company had acquired German telecoms and pay-TV firm Kabel Deutschland for £6.6 billion during the previous month.
