Sydney, Mar 7 : Former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori has issued an apology for being involved in an alcohol-related incident which had resulted in an injury to his international teammate Jeetan Patel.

Patel, who was involved in an altercation with a pub bouncer in Queenstown, New Zealand, had admitted that he had been drinking with Vettori when the incident happened, News. com. au reports.

Vettori, who was in Queenstown as part of his recovery process from an Achilles tendon injury, said that he regretted getting involved in the incident and said that it was totally inappropriate for him to be out drinking during a match where he was representing his country.

The incident occurred after the first day of a four-day match between Patel''s New Zealand XI team and England early this year, the report added.

Apologising to the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) medical team with whom he was working and other persons concerned, the former captain said that he should have spent time with Patel in another way without any drinks involved.

The incident comes in the wake of another after-hours incident that ruled New Zealand pace bowler Doug Bracewell out of this week''s first Test against England in Dunedin, when he cut his foot on glass while cleaning up from a party at his house four days out from the Test, the report added. (ANI)
