Verizon to sell more iPads than AT&T, analyst
According to an analyst at Macquarie Securities, Verizon Wireless will be able to sell more units of the Apple's new iPad than its rival, wireless-service provider AT&T, even as both the telecom service providers will launch the tablet in the US market.
Kevin Smithen, at Macquarie Securities said that Verizon Wireless would sell 3 million to 4 million units of the Apple iPad while AT&T will sell about 2 million units. The new version of the tablet computer is designed to work on Verizon's next-generation wireless networks in the US called, long-term evolution (LTE).
AT&T's LTE network does not cover the whole of the country and only caters to fewer potential customers. On the other hand, the Verizon LTE network covers more than 200 million potential customers, the company claimed in January
Verizon allows its users to convert their iPad computer into a mobile hotspot, something that are not available on AT&T's LTE network. Smithen said that because of added capabilities, iPad users can use their tablet better on Verizon's network hen compared to AT&T.
"Verizon is going to benefit more. The iPad could mean pretty significant growth for Verizon, because they have good LTE coverage," he said.
