Verizon reportedly rolling out device payment plan for select smartphones

Verizon reportedly rolling out device payment plan for select smartphonesAccording to a Droid Life report, based on a leaked Verizon document, a payment plan - the Verizon Wireless Device Payment Plan - is being rolled out by Verizon for some select smartphones.

As per the report, the leaked Verizon document reveals that, from April 21 onwards, certain smartphones can be purchased by the customers with the Verizon Wireless Device Payment Plan.

However, the report neither specified which smartphones will be available for purchase under the plan, nor did it mention whether new smartphones are likely to be added in the coming months or whether the feature will remain limited to some particular smartphones only.

Nonetheless, under the newly-announced plan, a new handset will be available for purchase to the customers as and when they want, irrespective of the fact whether they are still under a contract.

With the announcement of the Verizon Wireless Device Payment Plan coming in addition to the early upgrade, Verizon also said in a Friday post to Verizon Wireless' News Center, via The Verge: "In alignment with the terms of the contract, customers on a two-year agreement will be eligible for an upgrade at 24 months vs. today's early upgrade eligibility at 20 months."

Verizon further added in the post that the first customers who will be affected by the policy change will be the ones whose contracts are expiring in January 2014.
