Verizon might offer data pooling on Family plansVerizon Chief Financial Officer, Fran Shammo has said that the carrier might offer data pooling on its Family plans while it continues with plans to expand its 4G Long-Term Evolution network.

He said during the Reuters Global Technology Summit that the family members will be able to use shared data source and avoid exceeding limits. "At some point, you are going to have mega-plans, and people are going to share that mega-plan based on the number of devices within their family," Shammo said at the event.

The carrier is also planning to rely on WiFi, offering it to consumers at home and in large venues. The carrier is aiming to fill the capacity gaps in high usage areas much like rival AT&T that launched WiFi hotzones program to complement its 3G network.

As the number of high data usage devices such as smartphones and tablet computers is increasing on the Verizon’s network, the company executives are devising new plans grow the new 4G network.

Verizon is planning to introduce usage-based pricing for its LTE service this summer, bringing an end to its unlimited data plan.
