Verizon aiming to complete full deployment of 4G LTE across US by mid-2013
During the course of his recent speech at a Wells Fargo Securities technology conference, Fran Shammo - Chief Financial Officer of bigwig US carrier Verizon Wireless – said that Verizon’s full deployment of 4G LTE across the country will likely be completed by mid-2013.
With Shammo confirming at the conference that Verizon is aiming at a mid-next-year launch timeline for the completion of the LTE rollout, the timeframe mentioned by Shammo indicates that 4G LTE will probably be fully deployed in the US nearly six months ahead of the launch period which was earlier projected by the carrier.
Previously, in an October statement, Verizon had confirmed that its 2012 year-end target of covering 400 US markets with LTE connectivity would be exceeded by two months; and on October 18, the carrier announced that its high-speed 4G service had been made available in 417 US markets.
With the Verizon 4G LTE network now covering quarter of a billion consumers, thereby comprising nearly 80 percent of the population, Shammo said that the carrier was now aiming to reach at least 260 million customers till the end of this year.
About the notable pace of Verizon’s deployment of 4G LTE in the country, Shammo said: "I was confident in the first quarter when I said that you'll see an acceleration of our growth through the year, and I think that's proven to be correct.”
