Valuable topaz stolen from French art exhibition

Paris - A topaz worth an estimated 250,000 euros (360,000 dollars) has been stolen from an art exhibition in the French resort of St Tropez, France Info radio reported on Monday.

The 810-carat stone, one of the largest topazes in the world, was taken Sunday afternoon from an exhibition of the works of the French cubist painter Georges Braque.

The thief managed to remove the topaz without breaking the glass of the case in which it was exhibited as part of a metal sculpture. (dpa)
