Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday said David Coleman Headley, recently arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US for plotting terror attacks on India, had definite links to conspirators in Pakistan.

“If you have read the affidavit of the FBI agent filed in the court, there is a Pakistan link. Headley visited Pakistan a number of times,” he said.

Speaking to journalists after the graduation parade of Indian Police Service probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy near Hyderabad, the minister said: “I think on the advise of the FBI, two or perhaps more persons have been arrested in Pakistan.”

Earlier this week in Madurai, Chidambaram had warned Pakistan of retaliation in cases of another terror attack. “Mumbai should be the last,” he had said.

On Friday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in New Delhi that Pakistan had provided no information over the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba (LeT) plot to attack India.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Swedish counterpart Fredrik Reinfeldt following the India-EU Summit, Singh said: “To the extent I have information on this Headley affair, I don’t think we have received any information from the Pakistani side.”

In Hyderabad, asked if there were intelligence reports on possible terror attacks in the country ahead of the anniversary of the November 26 terror attacks on Mumbai, Chidambaram urged journalists not to create panic. “The security agencies are on a constant vigil to thwart any attack by terrorists.”

Defence minister A. K. Antony said the terror infrastructure across the border in Pakistan was intact. “Almost all the terrorist outfits across the border are intact... many of them are in the vicinity of their army bases,” he said in Delhi.
