Kabul/Washington  - US President George W Bush arrived in Afghanistan early Monday morning on a surprise farewell visit. He was to later meet Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and US troops.

Bush made an unnanounced visit to Iraq Sunday, where he met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

These are likely to be his last visits to the two war-torn countries as US president. President-elect Barack Obama takes office on January 20. (dpa)
