U.S. Army contracts Alliant Techsystems for delivery of tank munitions
According to the official reports, the U. S. Army has contracted Alliant Techsystems for the delivery of its tank munitions to support ongoing training on the M1A1/A2 Abrams main battle tank.
Its Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Virginia will manufacture the propellants for the 120mm tank ammunition and the company's Rocket Center in West Virginia will manufacturer the metal and composite components among other requirements for the $52 million order, ATK has said.
It was further reported that the order for the 120mm rounds, which are also used by the Marine Corps, will support the Army's efforts to provide realistic training for soldiers operating the Abrams tank.
Bruce DeWitt, ATK Advanced Weapons vice president and general manager, said in a statement, "High-quality ammunition that is extremely reliable in training situations is essential to the warfighter who must be prepared to react decisively on today's battlefield."
The order includes delivery of M865 kinetic energy and the M1002 multi-purpose anti-tank training rounds, ATK further adds. (With Inputs from Agencies)
