Urge to have a tanned body can be risky The urge to have suntanned body is pushing many women in lap of skin cancer. Malignant melanoma, the most dangerous of the skin cancers, kills more than 2,300 people each year in the UK and is diagnosed in around 9,500. Nearly two thirds of all malignant melanomas are caused due to over exposure to sunlight.

Everyday one UK woman in her 20s is diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Increase in melanoma cases in attributed to desire women to have tanned body even at the cost of their live. Some women use sun beds to get tan in false assumption that are safer as compared to exposure to direct sunlight.

Data from various studies has shown that one in three women and one in 10 girls under 17 have used sunbed. Using a sunbed before the age of 35, increases risk of melanoma by 75%.

Cancer Research expert Sara Hiom said: "Young skin is delicate and it's worrying to see so many young girls using them."

"Every time young people use a sunbed they harm their skin and increase their risk of skin cancer."
