Unbeaten Trinidad and Tobago can't take Cobras lightly

champions-league-twenty20Hyderabad, Oct 21 Trinidad and Tobago, the only unbeaten team in the Champions League Twenty20, cannot afford to be complacent when they meet highly rated Cape Cobras in the semifinals at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium here Thursday.

The young spirited team from the West Indies, led by Darren Ganga, has turned out to be the surprise package of the tournament and are now the favourites to win the title.

The side has promising batsmen in Keiren Pollard, Lendl Simmons and William Perkins with an equally effective bowling attack led by Dwayne Bravo and Ravi Rampaul. The seamers are well complemented by spinners Dave Mohammed and Sherwin Ganga.

The fact that Trinidad and Tobago have played three of their four games at this ground also gives them the edge over Cobras.

The Cobras, on the other hand, too have had a great run in the tournament before facing their fist loss in the tournament against Delhi Daredevils Monday.

The team has seen some great batting performances from Andrew Puttick, Henry Davids, and JP Duminy. However, Herschelle Gibbs' form remains a worry for the South African side.

Cape Cobras' manager Shukri Conrad is confident his team would do its best to avenge the loss of the only other South African team Diamond Eagles' at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago.

"They (Trinidad and Tobago) are the in-form team in the tournament. They play fearless cricket because they come at you aggressively and you must be able to handle their onslaught," Conrad said.

"But semifinals are do-or-die games and it's about how you execute on the night. We have to focus on what we are good at and not much on the other team. The semifinal is a great occasion and we will be up for it."

Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago cricketers Kelvin Williams said the wicket at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium will be more conducive to the South African batsmen.

"If we have to win this tournament we have to be prepared to play anybody and beat them," Williams said.

"The wicket in Hyderabad is a very good cricket wicket. It allows stroke play and we have noticed that the Cape Cobras batsmen like to play shots. Bowlers need to maintain their line and length on the wicket and this promises to be a very competitive encounter but my boys are up for it."

The medical staff is also monitoring the progress of Bravo as he recovers from a shoulder injury sustained while fielding in the League match against the New South Wales Blues.

"Darren Bravo is coming along quite smoothly in his recovery. He is getting there and I think he should be fit for the match on Thursday," said Williams. (IANS)
