UK Doctors Have To Prove Their Fitness

The doctors in Britain have to prove their fitness once in five years to carry UK Doctors Have To Prove Their Fitness on their practice. This plan is introduced by England's Chief Medical Officer Liam Donaldson on Wednesday. The current plan is the biggest change in medical regulations of UK for 150 years.

The Britain government has introduced this plan to restore public trust in the profession. The country has about 150000 doctors practicing in various government and private hospitals. All doctors will undergo fitness tests in each year and final license will be issued after they prove their fitness. The doctors who would not find well are given training and final license will be issued after recovery. This revalidation of license will be based on five years of appraisals of medical practice.

General Medical Council has a right to debar a doctor at present. It can cancel his registration in case of proof of misconduct and complaint. Now, the fitness, communication skills, treatment decisions will also be one of the criteria to debar a doctor from practice. The General Medical Council debarred 60 doctors last year.

The British Medical Association expressed reservation on some clauses but they are ready to accept new change in medical regulations.
