Uddhav Thackeray chosen as Shiv Sena parliamentary board chief

Uddhav ThackerayMumbai, Oct 20 : Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray was chosen as the chief of his party's parliamentary board at a meeting held here on Monday.

"All MLAs who won met today. It was a thanks giving and a welcome meeting and a resolution was passed where Uddhavji was chosen as parliamentary board chief," said Shiv Sena leader Anil Desai .

He further said that the Shiv Sena chief would take the call if any proposal was put forward regarding the government formation in Maharashtra.

"However, we do not want to comment on anything else right now as it would not be right," he said.

The development in this regard came a day after the verdict of the Maharashtra Assembly polls. The Shiv Sena, which finished second in Maharashtra with 63 seats, had earlier in an editorial in its party mouthpiece 'Samna' said that there was no wave for any party in the state.

"There is no clear mandate for any one party but we congratulate those who are blowing their trumpets in celebration," the Shiv Sena said in its editorial with strong messages for its former ally.

The Shiv Sena chief had yesterday said that he would wait for a proposal by the BJP and not approach its estranged ally.

"If the BJP asks for our support, we will consider and think about it. We will consider any proposal for a stable government," Thackeray said.

"What if I take the proposal and they say no? Therefore, it is better to wait," he added.

In Maharashtra, the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 122 seats, though it fell short of winning an outright majority in the 288-member house.

The BJP, which has made it clear that it will be going ahead with formation of government in Maharashtra, has so far kept both the NCP and Shiv Sena guessing.

Taking a dig at the Shiv Sena, BJP chief Amit Shah had earlier on Sunday maintained that his party had not broken the alliance.

The BJP and Shiv Sena, which last governed Maharashtra together from 1995 to 1999, broke their 25-year-old alliance ahead of the assembly polls over seat sharing.

The NCP has offered to support the BJP from outside to from the government in the state.

However, it will be interesting to see whether the BJP decides to ally with its estranged partner Shiv Sena for government formation in the state.

The BJP has appointed Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and party general secretary J. P. Nadda as its observers to decide leader of the legislative party in Maharashtra. (ANI)
