Two South Africans out on bail in Heathrow drug smuggling case

South African AirwaysJohannesburg - An airport security official and a flight attendant from South African Airways (SAA) who are facing drug smuggling charges were released on bail Friday pending further investigation, news reports said.

Their case, being heard in the Kempton Park Regional Court, was meanwhile postponed to April 9.

The two were last week arrested in connection with the seizure of 50 kilograms of cannabis and four kilograms of cocaine at London's Heathrow airport earlier this month.

The 43-year-old security officer at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport is suspected of clearing bags containing the drugs for the 35-year-old flight attendant.

The drugs were found in the baggage of the SAA crew members following the arrival of a morning flight. British police arrested all 15 crew members but later allowed them to return to South Africa. (dpa)
