Two law enforcement officers stabbed in a Calgary police interview room

Two law enforcement officers stabbed in a Calgary police interview roomAuthorities have said that two law enforcement officers were cut in a Calgary, Alberta, police interview room by a knife-wielding man shot by police last year.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. has reported that the attack occurred in the office of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team when the man, identified as Lee Christopher Monrose, 30, showed up without an appointment.

The CBC also reported that he was escorted to an interview room by Sgt. Andrew Johnson of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but became increasingly agitated and allegedly stabbed Johnson.

Clifton Purvis, head of the response team, told the CBC, "Over about 10 minutes, it appears that his behavior escalated. He became violent, and he attacked one of our investigators in the office."

It was also reported that two other response team members, one from the RCMP and the other from the Calgary police, entered the room to help Johnson and the Calgary police officer was cut on the hand.

Johnson, 53, was in serious but stable condition following surgery for three stab wounds to his upper torso while the other officer was treated at the scene.

Officials further told the CBC that Monrose was taken to a hospital to be checked out for a bump to his head.

It was confirmed by Purvis that Monrose had been shot in the head by police during a confrontation last November. That shooting is under investigation by the response team. (With Inputs from Agencies)
