Two Italian mafia bosses arrested in Spain
Madrid - Spanish police have detained two of the leaders of the Neapolitan Camorra criminal organization, police said Tuesday.
Antonio Caiazzo, a historical leader of the Camorra's Volmero clan, and his right-hand man Francesco Simeoli were held in Majadahonda near Madrid as they were leaving a restaurant by car on Monday evening.
The men, both of whom are 50 years old, did not resist arrest, police said.
Caiazzo went on the run in March 2007 after being sentenced to 12 years in prison by a Naples court.
Caiazzo had participated in staging an internal "war" within the Camorra in the 1990s, following which he emerged as the leader of the Volmero clan, according to Spanish police.
The two men were due to be extradited to Italy. (dpa)
