Two Companies come up with latest Medical Collars for dogs and cats
PetPace, based in Burlington, has come up with a medical collar for dogs that can check for a fever, monitor pulse and respiration. It can even tell that whether pet is in pain. If any problem, it will trigger a notice by phone, text or email. I4C Innovations Inc., based in Chantilly, has also come up with a consumer version that tracks similar information.
The in wearable pet GPS technology can be used for dogs and cats more than 8 pounds. These collars can be programmed to monitor for pet’s specific illness. PetPace’s medical monitoring collar was introduced three years back and has been tested on many dogs.
Voyce for pet owners was introduced in the spring and a professional version for veterinarians was introduced in July. The collars can be ordered from petpace.com for $150 per collar and $15 a month and Voyce is available for $200 and $9.95 a month at voyce.com.
It is being said that these smart collars do have limitations as well. To cite an example, batteries is a limitation as it lasts anywhere from two days to eight weeks. Kenneth Herring, who lives outside Detroit, uses PetPace in order to keep a tab on his 5-year-old dog, Jack. They have taken part in test case to see how effective is the collar in helping detect epilepsy.
PetPace said that it plans to use the information that it will gather from this test and will tailor the collar to other dogs having epilepsy.
