TVS Motors Sales Surge 3% In April; Plans To Roll Out ‘Higher Capacity’ Motorcycle

TVS MotorsThe country's third largest two wheeler maker, TVS Motors has registered a marginal sale growth of 3% in April 2009.

The company, which sells motorcycles and automatic scooters, sold 1, 13,119 units as compared to 1,09,972 units during the corresponding period last year.

According to reports, the company witnessed a marginal decline in its exports, which stood at 10,134 units as against 10,213 units last year.

The report also said that the decline in its monthly exports was mainly due to the general slump in demand in the global market.

A company statement said, "The ongoing slowdown in some countries affected the company's exports, which registered sales of 10,134 units of two wheelers in April against 10,213 units in the corresponding period of the previous year."

During the month under review, the company recorded a fall of 8.4% in its motorcycle sales at 53,325 units as against 58,237 units in April 2008.

In contrast, the total number of scooters sold in April 2009 was 18,819 units, down 1.12% from 19,034 units sold during April 2008.

The company said that the overall increase in its two-wheeler sales was due to a 36.76% growth in moped sales, which stood at 30,862 units from 22,567 units in April last year.

As part of enhancing its existence in the premium section, the company has decided to roll out a 'higher capacity' motorcycle later this month.

The new bike, which will take on Bajaj Auto's Pulsar 180, will have ultra-modern features that comprise a digital speedometer, trip meter and many other others.
