Treta eases through second round of ITFIndia’s Treta Bhattacharya has stormed into the second round of the women’s single event of the ITF women’s tennis tournament with prize money of $ 10,000 after surviving a scare from Jasmin Steinherr of Germany in the first round at the DLTA complex, New Delhi on Monday.

Treta, a member of the Commonwealth Games training programme, fought hard for win against Jasmin in a three setter match by 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-3, which lasted for almost three hours.

Treta lost the first set after the set went to tie-breaker. But she came back strongly in the second set and won the set without facing any difficulty.

The 17-years old girl Treta continued her good work in the third set also, and she won the third set to race away with the match.

After this win, Treta said that her opponent was not able to adjust in hot and humid conditions and she took advantage of this to make a comeback after losing the first set.

Another Indian girl, Rashmi Tetumbde has also made into the second round after defeating wild card Gopika Kapoor 6-2 6-1 in her first round match.
