Train-truck collision kills eight in Bangladesh Dhaka  - At least eight people were killed and dozens others injured Tuesday as a train collided with a truck in the north-western district of Joypurhat district, Bangladeshi police said.

The accident occurred at the Khasiabari level crossing, some 280 kilometres north-west of the capital Dhaka, killing the eight victims on the spot, said inspector Noor Hossain at Joypurhat police station.

He quoted witnesses saying the fatal victims were riding on the front side of the engine of the "Rocket Mail" train, which rammed into the truck that had reached the level crossing at around noon (0600 GMT).

The injured were undergoing treatment in local hospitals.

In another accident in north-eastern Habiganj district, a Dhaka-bound train from Sylhet hit a bus at an open-level crossing, killing one passenger and injuring 25 others. (dpa)
