Top pros for Willingdon golf
Mumbai, Nov 10 : The country's leading professionals will participate in the Aircel-PGTI Players Championship presented by the Willingdon Sports Club, Mumbai, from Nov 11 to 14.
The event, which offers a prize money of Rs. 3 million, will see some of India's top professionals, including Anirban Lahiri, Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Harendra Gupta, Vijay Kumar, Rahul Ganapathy, Arjun Singh, Harmeet Kahlon and Gurki Shergill to name a few.
Pradip Patel, captain, the Willingdon Sports Club, said: "The Willingdon Sports Club is hosting its first ever professional golf tournament, and we are really looking forward to the event. The Aircel-PGTI's initiative will certainly provide a boost to professional golf in Mumbai and contribute greatly in promoting junior golf programmes."
Founded in 1917, the Willingdon Sports Club is home to a small but very picturesque course that, though extremely short, offers a pleasant golfing experience. It has narrow fairways and large trees. The greens are surrounded by bunkers. There are two par-5s on the course and as many as 10 par-3s.
Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, said: "We are happy to partner with the Willingdon Sports Club in staging this tournament, and we look forward to growing the event over the years to come. Professional golf has returned to Mumbai after over two years, and we are confident this revival will lead to bigger events in the coming months and years. The Aircel-PGTI is committed to take professional golf across the country, explore new venues and provide different playing conditions to our professionals." (IANS)
