Tokyo market opens down after Wall Street plunge

Tokyo - The Tokyo stock market slipped in early trading Thursday after Wall Street's blue-chip Dow Jones industrials lost nearly 8 per cent overnight amid growing recession fears in the United States and worldwide.

In the opening minutes of trading, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 148.48 points, or 1.55 per cent, to 9,398.99. (dpa)
