Tokyo market dips on Wall Street's overnight losses
Tokyo - The Tokyo market tracked Wall Street's overnight decline and ended morning trading lower Wednesday.
Investors sold mainly export-oriented issues as the yen advanced against the US dollar.
As Tokyo players sold shares to lock in profits from the recent four-day rally that ended the previous day with a 10-month closing high, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average fell 82.5 points, or 0.78 per cent to 10,502.96.
The broader-based Topix index was also down 8.73 points, or 0.9 per cent, at 964.78.
On the currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 95.90-95 yen, down from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 96.86-87 yen. A stronger yen reduces the earnings of Japanese firms.
The euro traded at 1.4145-50 dollars, down from late Tuesday's quote of 1.4167-69 dollars, and at 135.72-77 yen, down from 137.23-27 yen. (dpa)
