It was such rejoicing news for this toddler’s parents that their daughter who was born deaf was finally able to hear for the first time in North Carolina.

On Monday, doctors switched on the little girl’s Cochlear implants. The girl’s mother then clapped her hands and asked her baby ‘Di you hear mommy clapping’ to which the baby smiled and rolled her head.

Teacher Beth Whitfield said, “I'm looking forward to seeing what affect hearing is going to have on other areas of development. I mean she is already making better eye contact”.

Though the operation has been done and turned out to be successful, a lot of problems came in the way of girl and her parents. The girl needed the cochlear implants, which are considered to be quickest way to restore hearing.

Parents tried hard to get their insurance, but they came to know it won’t be able to cover the pricey life-challenging surgery to doctors. Then, next problem was doctors found too much fluid in Laken’s ears. Later on, the couple was able to raise around $20,000 needed to cover the implants.

Finally, the surgery was carried out and on Monday, doctors turned on little Laken’s implants. Stacy and Gary Westbrook said that hearing ability has already improved her response behavior. Stacy shared that when someone talks to Laken, she now stops or looks into his eyes. She has not done something like this before.
