Tim Schafer raises $ 1.6 million through Kickstarter
Tim Shafer of Double Fine, who is recognized for classic adventure games like Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle, has been able to raise more than $ 1.6 million through kickstarter to develop a new point-and-click adventure game.
The success of the fund raising exercise was a let down to the out-of-touch publishers who did not show much interest in the project when Shafer presented the opportunity to them. The Kickstarter campaign page for the game says that the game will be released around October 2012.
When Schafer did not see published showing interest in his project he approached kickstarter and explained the funding requirements and within a day more than 46,000 people had pored in the amount of $ 1.6 million for the new game.
Double Fine, which was founded in 2000 has been involved in the development of popular games including Pyschonauts, Brutal Legend, Costume Quest, Stacking, Iron Brigade, Once Upon a Monster, and Double Fine Happy Action Theater.
Within the next six-to-eight months, Shafer will lead a small team in Double Fine to develop the new point-and-click adventure game. Meanwhile, Player Productions will document he game development process and release monthly video updates exclusively to the Kickstarter supporters to allow viewers to become a part of the game development process from the initial stages to the release.
