Thomas Montag; the highest paid executive of Bank of America in 2009Thomas Montag, the chief of investment banking unit of Bank of America, was reported the highest paid executive in 2009, according to a regulatory filing given by the bank today.

Thomas Montag received a total of $29.9 million compensation package in 2009 by Bank of America for running its global banking and markets units. The bank assumed his contract as part of its acquisition of Merrill Lynch, according to the company's proxy filing on Friday. Montag joined Bank of America four months before it agreed to buy Merrill Lynch in September 2008.

According to the regulatory filing, the largest part of the compensation to this former Merrill Lynch executive, who is currently president of Bank of America's global banking and markets, comes from a $29.31 million restricted stock award. Also, Montag received $586,539 in base pay, and $30,423 in all other compensation, according to the filling.

For 2009, Montag received more than the $6.51 million to what the new Chief Executive Officer Brian Moynihan received and more than the $6.12 million to what Joe Price, the former finance chief now in charge of consumer banking, received, according to the regulatory filing.
