Thinning Scare of H1N1 Leaves Surplus Vaccine

The H1N1 scare had, up until recently, gripped the whole world and millions were in-line to get vaccinated against catching the deadly virus, but now it seems that the fear has started to fade away, and as a result, there is surplus amount of vaccine left over. Also, fewer people than estimated sought immunization.

All over the world, Governments are now left with huge supplies of H1N1 vaccine, and many are now selling or donating the excess medication they have, and others are cutting the pending orders.

As has been shared by analysts, major pharmaceutical companies of the world, including GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi-Aventis, Baxter International, Novartis and CSL, are facing a potential sales windfall shrink of $7.6 Billion.

"I'm very sad that we spent the money like this, very inefficiently. The governments could have put more questions forth", said Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg of Council of Europe.

Government officials all over the world and the World Health Organization has said that initially, it was impossible to predict how the virus would progress and how much of vaccine would be needed, which has led to potential over-ordering.
