Terry honoured to be part of ‘Football Ambassadors for England 2018’ squad
London, Oct 25 : England captain John Terry, who has been appointed as one of the Ambassadors for England’s bid for football World Cup in 2018, has said that it is an honour for him to be part of the team bidding for such a prestigious event.
Terry now joins the Football Ambassador Squad, which includes giants Gary Lineker, John Barnes, Alan Shearer, Paul Ince, David Beckham and the current wonder Wayne Rooney.
“It is a massive honour for me to become an ambassador for the England 2018 World Cup bid,” The News of the World quoted Terry, as saying.
The 28-year-old said that the support that it has received from players, clubs and most importantly fans has been amazing.
“It has been great to see how many current stars and legends of the game have stepped forward to offer their services as Football Ambassadors for England 2018. It feels good for all of us to be united as a group with one goal,” Terry said.
He also said that he has no doubt about England providing a fantastic home for the World Cup if they have the opportunity to stage the tournament.
“We have incredible passion for football in this country, great stadiums and facilities along with diverse communities who would give fans and players from around the world a real home-from- home welcome,” Terry added.
Terry also believes that a world cup in England could inspire a generation of young fans and players towards the game, and said that he would have loved to play in the tournament.
“I am slightly jealous of the likes of Theo Walcott, Wayne Rooney and James Milner, who could still be around to try and contest a World Cup Final at Wembley Stadium,” he added.
The decision on the 2018 football World Cup will be made by FIFA in December 2010. (ANI)
