Telstra planning to cut 260 back-office jobsTelstra has said it is planning to cut about 260 back-office jobs in the country during this financial year and it is believed that most of the jobs will be shifted to India.

The company has indicated that the jobs will be cut at in the company's Network Applications and Services (NAS) business in capital cities and regional jobs are not likely to be affected. A company spokesperson said that it will create 170 positions in India if it is able to implement its plan to develop new delivery centres in the south Asian country.

"Part of the NAS growth strategy is to expand into international markets, particularly the Asia-Pacific region. Discussions are currently underway regarding the establishment of delivery centres in conjunction with industry partners located in India," the spokeswoman said.

The plan will involve outsourcing of non-customer facing functions and services to industry partners that will result in cutting around 170 jobs in the country. The company will cut another 90 contractors in the department.

The company added that it added a total of 150 new workers in Australia during the previous financial year and it is planning to create 350 new positions in the country this year.
