NASA maps moon with Google

Washington, Sept 19: NASA has made available new higher resolution lunar imagery and maps which includes the agency’s multimedia content on the Google Moon Web site.

Updates include new content from the Apollo missions, including dozens of embedded panoramic images, links to audio clips and videos, and descriptions of the astronauts’ activities during the missions.

Magellanic clouds are recent visitors to our Milky Way galaxy

Washington, Sept 18: Astronomers at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics have shown that the Magellanic Clouds are recent arrivals to our galactic neighbourhood.

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) are two of the Milky Way's closest neighbouring galaxies. A stunning sight in the southern hemisphere, they were named after Ferdinand Magellan, who explored those waters in the 16th century.

For hundreds of years, these galaxies were considered satellites of the Milky Way, gravitationally bound to our home galaxy.

New bone-growing nanomaterial may revolutionise orthopaedic implants

Washington, September 18: A team of engineers from Brown University has discovered a novel, bone-growing material that may revolutionise orthopaedic implants.

The study led by Associate Professor Thomas Webster shows that for orthopaedic implants to be successful, bone must meld to the metal that artificial hips, knees and shoulders are made of. He says that the new material may help increase this success rate.

MTV to bring YouTube hit ‘Million Dollar Strong’ to silver screen

Washington, Sept 17:  MTV Films will be bringing YouTube phenomenon ‘Million Dollar Strong’ to the silver screen.

Starring in the MTV comedy will be Mike O'Connell and Ken Jeong, who star as the duo Million Dollar Strong in the satirical music video "What's It Gonna Be?".

The screenplay is being penned by Peter Kline, with Todd Phillips aboard to produce.

Also on the producers’ bandwagon is Management 360, with Todd Phillips Co.'s Scott Budnick on as executive producer, reports Variety.

Internet crime becoming major commercial activity

London, Sept 17: Internet crime is becoming a major commercial activity, a report by the security firm, Symantec, has revealed.

Millions of email addresses are being sold over the Internet and details of bank accounts and credit cards are being offered on underworld auction sites, the firm said.

Trade in commercial software used by criminals to launch attacks on websites is also showing a rising trend, and criminals are using trusted sites like MySpace and Facebook to launch attacks on users' computers, it added.
