Team Milram to continue as sponsor Nordmilch remains sponsor
Berlin - Germany's Milram cycling team will continue in 2009 after dairy products company Nordmilch gave its nod to remain team sponsor.
"After a constructive dialogue with our partner Velocity GmbH, Nordmilch announces that the team will start as Team Milram from January 1, 2009, on," Nordmilch said in a press release on Friday.
"This is being done trusting in successful cycling performances by Team Milram and its new up-and-coming hopeful riders and an improvement of the current media situation."
Nordmilch had reviewed its engagement, which officially runs until 2010, after cycling continued to make negative headlines with doping cases. This prompted German state networks ARD and ZDF to decide that they won't broadcast the 2009 Tour de France.
New riders for the team which formed in 2006 include German hopefuls Linus Gerdemann and Gerald Ciolek. The team will officially be presented on January 7.
"I am naturally very happy that we will continue," said team boss Gerry van Gerwen. "We must be creative and work hard in order to meet our goals."
Milram is the last major German team in the sport. Deutsche Telekom quit as sponsor last year over several doping cases. Gerolsteiner ends its engagement on December 31, with team principle Hans-Michael Holczer unable to find a new sponsor. (dpa)
