New Delhi, Apr 18 : Two days before demitting the Election Commission office, Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami on Saturday said that the BJP leader Varun Gandhi's controversial speech was worse than what was aired.
"There is no reason to believe that the tape containing Varun's speech was doctored. His speech was worse than what was aired," Gopalaswami said in an interview with NDTV.
Kolkata, Mar 19 : Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami and two Election Commissioners Navin Chawla and S Y Quraishi will review the poll preparedness for the coming Lok Sabha polls here today.
The team, who arrived here last evening, will also interact with senior officials in the state.
On Friday, the Commission will conduct similar exercise in Orissa.
New Delhi, Mar 15 : The Election Commission will hold a meeting of poll observers here today.
During the two-day meeting, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalawami and two Election Commissioners Navin Chawla and S Y Quraishi will brief around 1500 observers on the conduct of elections.
The election process will be set in motion on March 23 and notifications for the first phase of polling will be issued on April 16.
Nearly 714 million voters are eligible to exercise their franchise for 543 member Lok Sabha.
