Heat wave spreads across India

Heat WaveNagpur /Raipur, Apr 22 : Rising mercury levels made life miserable for residents in different parts of the country as they grapple with a heat wave.

In Nagpur, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41 degree Celsius.

People quenched their thirst with sugarcane juice and butter milk or lassi made from curd and flavoured with salt or fruit juice.

The rising temperature has made difficult for residents to even walk on streets.

In Jharkhand, six Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed in a landmine blast in Latehar district.

According to police, Maoists detonated the landmine when the BSF personnel were travelling in a bus to a polling station near Aara village, about 140 km from the state capital. Later, Maoists ambushed the BSF bus.

This ambitious NREGS programme was launched in 2006 to provide employment to the unemployed and landless villagers.

For instance, this scheme has benefitted the residents of Kanchanpur village in Koriya district of Chhattisgarh to a great extent.

  Naxals kill one policeman; injure five in Chhattisgarh  Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Apr. 7 : Naxals have killed a policeman and injured five others in a land mine blast in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.

Reports said they attacked the convoy of Superintendent of Police Ankit Garg as it was passing through the Bijapur Valley, about five kilometres from the district headquarters.

Nand Kishore Sori, a policeman who was part of Garg's security detail, died on the spot while five others were injured seriously. Vehicles in the convoy were also damaged.

241 killed in Naxal violence in Chhattisgarh in one year

Chhattisgarh MapRaipur, Feb. 4 : Chhattisgarh home minister Nankiram Kanwar informed the assembly on Wednesday that 241 people fell victim to the Naxal violence in the state during the last year.

In his written reply to a question by Congress MLA Haridhar Bharadwaj, the home minister said, "Naxalites have killed 241 persons in the state between January 1, 2008 and January 12, 2009".

"During this period, 82 of extremists were killed in police encounters, and 431 Naxalites and Sangam members were also arrested," he said.

 Survivors of Maoist attacks rehabilitated in RaipurRaipur, Feb 2 : The growing Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh is leading to a loss of identity among tribal children who have lost their parents in the Naxalite attacks or whose parents have been lodged in Salwa Judum camps.

Gayatri Parivar, a self-help group has come to the rescue of these children and has already adopted 26 girls, from the Maoist affected area.
