Yokohama set to mark 150th anniversary of open port

Yokohama set to mark 150th anniversary of open portYokohama, Japan  - Much of the world was tuned in to Yokohama for a little over 90 minutes in 2002, when it hosted the final of the football World Cup. Brazil's Ronaldo scored two goals to give his team victory over Germany. The city then fell back into the shadow of nearby Tokyo.

But Yokohama will be back in the spotlight in 2009 as it marks an important anniversary - 150 years ago, it opened its port to world trade and thus ushered in a fundamental modernization of Japan. The events dedicated to the anniversary are a good opportunity for tourists to visit the city.

United beat Osaka to book place in World Club Championship final

Manchester United LogoYokohama, Japan - Wayne Rooney came off the bench to score twice as Manchester United beat Gamba Osaka 5-3 Thursday in a highly entertaining semi-final of the World Club Championship in Yokohama.

Headed efforts from Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo gave United a comfortable two-goal cushion at the break before Masato Yamazaki pulled one back for Osaka.

However, the two strikes from Rooney, with an effort from Darren Fletcher sandwiched in-between, countered by a late penalty from Yashuhito Endo and a strike in added time from Hideo Hashimoto, ensured a comfortable win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
