Taipei  - Taiwan stocks tumbled nearly 4 per cent in mid-day trading Tuesday in reaction to Wall Street falls caused by US banking giant Citigroup's announcement of massive lay-offs.

By mid-session, the TAIEX benchmark index dropped 174.75 points, or 3.94 per cent, to 4,265.05. (dpa)
