Taiwan stocks rise 4 per cent on tech and financial rally
Taipei - Taiwan's stocks rose 4.16 per cent on Wednesday, led by tech and financial shares, despite Wall Street's overnight woes, dealers said.
The main Taiex index opened flat in response to Wall Street's fall, but soon picked up amid strong buying in tech and financial shares, allowing the local index to close at
4,658.87, up 186.21 points, or 4.16 per cent, dealers said.
All eight major sectors rose, with the semiconductor sub-index soaring 6.64 per cent to become the day's biggest winner, followed by financials' 5.39 per cent and construction's 5.33 per cent. (dpa)
