Taiwan issues sea warning for Typhoon Jangmi

Taiwan, TaipeiTaipei - Taiwan on Friday night issued a sea warning for Typhoon Jangmi, which formed over the Pacific Ocean earlier in the week.

By 11 pm (1530 GMT) Friday, the eye of Jangmi was 820 kilometres south-east of Taiwan's southern tip of Erlunpi, the Central Weather Bureau said.

Moving in a north-westerly direction at 21 kilometres per hour, Jangmi is packing winds of 162 kph at its centre and gusts of 198 kph. The radius of the typhoon is 250 km.

The bureau expects Jangmi to bring strong winds and heavy rain to south-east and east Taiwan over the weekend. (dpa)
