Sydney, Nov. 15 : Former Australian captain Steve Waugh has said both all-rounders Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson must play in the Gabba Test against New Zealand.

"It''s a difficult choice. But Watson did very well (in India) and he might come in as a third quick. I think Australia would like to have both those players in the team if they can," Waugh was quoted as saying by The Australian.

The debate reveals Australia''s embarrassment of riches compared to New Zealand, which lost two key players during the tour match against New South Wales at the SCG yesterday.

Wicketkeeper and 37-Test veteran Brendon McCullum had to leave the field with back spasms, while aggressive young batsman Jesse Ryder has been quarantined from his teammates because of a mystery virus.

Waugh said Symonds has to be rushed back into the team.

"I think they need him back in the side, his spirit back in the side, the way he carries himself and his enthusiasm," the former captain said.

Ponting believes that Symonds is a player who can change a Test match in a few overs with his bat.

The Kiwis decided yesterday to fly out keeper Gareth Hopkins and batsman Peter Fulton to cover for its two injured players.

New Zealand has not won a Test in Australia since 1985-86 and has brought a very inexperienced side with the retirement of fast bowler Shane Bond and an injury on the eve of the tour to the side''s best player, Jacob Oram. (ANI)
