Brisbane, Jan. 30: Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds failed to score in his pivotal first-class comeback, making just five for Queensland against Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba here today.

Symonds lasted just seven balls against Western Australia as he was dismissed edging a shortish Brett Dorey delivery to Adam Voges at first slip, Fox Sports reported.

It was the first ball he faced from beanpole Dorey, who was brought back into the WA attack when Symonds came to the crease on a bowler-friendly Brisbane pitch with the score at 2-32.

It could have been even worse for the 33-year-old. Symonds was fortunate to get off the mark after an ugly leaden-footed slash flew just over second slip the previous over.

The first-innings failure is a blow to Symonds's hopes of a return to the Australia Test team for next month''s tour of South Africa.

His dismissal took place in front of chief selector Andrew Hilditch.

On Thursday, Symonds was fined 4000 dollars by Cricket Australia for breaching CA''s code of conduct over a radio rant.

Second-placed Queensland opted for a four-man pace attack, handing left-armer Scott Walter his first-class debut and making batsman Nathan Reardon 12th man.

The fourth-placed Warriors are on 12 points, eight behind the Bulls (20), with four rounds to play. (ANI)
