Suspected Muslim bomber gunned down in southern PhilippinesCotabato City, Philippines  - A suspected Muslim militant was killed by two unidentified gunmen while walking to a mosque in a southern Philippine city, a police official said Tuesday.

Sammer Bansil, 42, died on the spot after suffering gunshot wounds to the head and chest late Monday in Cotabato City, 960 kilometres south of Manila, Superintendent Willy Dangane said.

The gunmen fled on a motorcycle, the officer said.

Dangane said Bansil was suspected of being involved in the July 5 bombing outside a Catholic church in Cotabato City, which killed six people and injured more than 50. (dpa)
