Students told to vacate hostel by Aligarh University Officials
Aligarh Muslim University has been closed sine die following protests against the killing of a student. Mohammad Mazhar Naeem was stabbed twice in head and died. The victim was a resident of Meerut and was a second year BSc student.
The residence of vice-chancellor was set on fire residence. Severe damage was done to staff room by protesting students. Other offices in the university were also attacked.
As per the Police reports, the University VC Mr. P K Abdul Aziz was not present at his residence while the incident took place.
Police has informed that the murder looks like some small issue between some groups of students. They have ruled out any political reason for the murder. The police staff has been ordered to do a full inquiry regarding the situation.
Rapid Action Force and PAC personnel have been deployed in the campus where the situation is tense but under control, AMU Spokesman Rahat Abrar said.
An emergency meeting of the University's Executive Council and its Dean took the decision to close the varsity sine-die.
The Sunday's killing was the third such incident since April this year. (With Inputs from ANI)
