Stop & Shop grocery store chain recalls its chicken products

It has been reported that the Stop & Shop grocery store chain has recalled some of its products on account of concerns of illness due to salmonella. According to the US Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection (USDA), six people in Minnesota and Wisconsin were affected and fell sick.

After this report by the department, Barber Foods recalled over 1.7 million pounds of its stuffed, frozen chicken products. According to CBS News, the products were consumed by these people between April and late June. According to USDA, "Although the products subject to recall may appear to be cooked, these products are in fact uncooked (raw) and should be handled carefully to avoid cross-contamination in the kitchen"".

Initially, the recall was announced on July 2 and approximately 58,000 pounds of Barber Foods chicken products were recalled at that time.

As per reports, the company has recalled stuffed, frozen, raw chicken manufactured in 6 individual packs per box, in varieties such as Chicken Cordon Bleu, Chicken Kiev, Chicken Tenders and Chicken Broccoli Cheese. The USDA's website has a complete list of such products. It has been reported that the products had been manufactured between February 17 and May 20, 2015, and supermarkets across the US and Canada have sold them.

Stop & Shop is located in the region of the Tri-State Area. It hasn't yet received any reports of sickness due to consumption of its products. Even then, the company decided to remove the products from sale.
