Stay away from cash register

Cash-ReceiptMajor sources of environmental pollution recently found out are the cash registers from retailers and other service centers. High levels of bisphenol A(BPA) were identified in almost 40 percent of the thermal receipts.

To add to the troubles, the receipts possess no methods of visual or peripheral identification.

The U.S. National Toxicology program earlier revealed that even parts per billion(PPB) of BPA can be risky affecting young children resulting in brain, reproductive and behavioral problems on account of its ability to be an endocrine disruptor and an active estrogen mimic.

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) stated that fraction of EPA wiped off the thermal receipts by sweaty fingers carries over the risk to contaminate children.

A study commissioned by the organization involving examination of 36 receipts from over a number of stores, restaurant or banks  led to the observation that 29 of them tested positive for BPS while 16 of them had an average 1.9 percent BPA by weight.

Even recycled goods as toilet paper could contain BPA as studied by Department of Waste Management, Dresden University. So it's evident to be precautionary for everyone in proper disposal of receipts from cash registers toilet papers etc.
