Standing Labour Committee to meet tomorrow to discuss key labour issues

New Delhi, Dec 12: Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes will chair the 42nd Session of Standing Labour Committee (SLC) here tomorrow.

The meeting will review the Action Taken Report on the conclusions and recommendations of the 41st Session of the Indian Labour Conference, besides finalising the items to be included in the agenda for the next Indian Labour Conference.

The tripartite meeting will be attended by senior representatives of Central Trade Union Organisations, Central Organizations of Employers and Labour Ministers and senior officers from State Governments and UT administration and the representatives from Central Ministries and Departments of the Government of India.

Prior to the meeting of SLC, Fernandes will also chair a meeting of the Labour Ministers of States to share his concern on some of the important issues like skill development and employment of youth, increasing the coverage of establishments under the purview of EPF and MP Act, 1952, rationalization of network of dispensaries and hospitals under ESIC Schemes, implementation of Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY), recently announced by the Government and the nationwide drive on enforcement of the provisions of Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act launched recently by the Government of India.

Among the issues in the agenda to be discussed in the SLC meeting include issues concerning contractualisation of labour, role of social partners in appropriate skill development for employability, corporate social responsibility and the problems and issues concerning migrant labour (domestic and abroad).
