St Augustine lads win U-16 dist hockey title

Vashi team defeated MMS, Mumbai in the final clash by 3-1 at Churchgate

St Augustine's High School won the U-16 boys title in the hockey championship conducted by the Thane District Hockey Association (TDHA). This championship was conducted at the MHA Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate. The matches were of 50 minutes with 25 minutes in each half.

The Augustine's team defeated Maharashtra Military School, Mumbai in the final by 3-1. Udit Mhalsekar of St Augustine's scored the first goal of the match in the 11th minute followed by his team mate Prasad Magare scoring another one in the 15th minute. Just few seconds before the half time, Nikhil Jaware of MMS netted a goal in an attempt to equal the scores. In the second half, Augustine's team played a defensive game and did not allow their opponents to score. In the 42nd minute Akash Mishra, the captain of the team, managed to dodge MMS team and made the final goal for St Augustine's. A delighted Akash said, "We played well and our goal keeper was excellent in his job. He saved a lot attempts made by opponents. In the second half, we are also able to defend our score. Also, we are thankful to our coach Sunil Poojari and Principal Lily Zachariah for the support they are giving us for all tournaments we participate in."

In the semifinal, Augustine's defeated KC Gandhi High School, Kalyan by 2-0 and the goals were made by Prasad Magare and Zaminul Sayed. In the quarterfinal they won against DAV Public School, Airoli with a score of 3-0. The goals in the quarter final match were scored by Masvinder Singh, Udit Mhalsekar and Pruthvi Pawar.
