Sparta High School Robotics Team Raising Funds to go to 2015 VEX World Championships
After their success at local and state level, the Sparta High School Robotics team has started raising funds to compete at the 2015 VEX World Championships in Kentucky. According to reports, to go to the world completion, the robotics team must raise more than $3,000.
Now, the students of the Sparta High School have started fundraising efforts to make the trip possible. On Monday, the team is going to hold a 'Jeans Day', in which staff members throughout the district could wear jeans for a donation of about $5. Team Advisor Mark Meola said that they are a diverse group of boys. Every member of the group contributed to the team in own way, Meola added.
The VEX Robotics competition sends detail of rules and specifications at the end of the spring or early fall. Meola said, "The packet is nearly an inch thick detailing the rules about the robot and the field. The first thing I do is give them the packet to study. Then they have to take a test".
The team's members are Steven Viola, Joseph Han, Daniel Parker and Tommy Apostolico. Han and Parker said they have worked very hard on the robot. According to them, they have spent about six months on the bot. They used to work on that after school 5:30 or 6 pm, while sometimes they used to take the stuff home, Han and Parker added.
Giving information about the robot, Meola said Joe worked on the mechanical design and competition strategy while Tommy worked on mechanical assembly. Another member documented the design process. Steven, who is the Team Captain, is also programmer and mechanical designer. Jeremy Valshtein is helping the team as a travel manager, according to Meola.
