Spanish King arrives in India for state visit
Juan Carlos I, the king of Spain has arrived in India on Wednesday for a four-day state visit to the country, which is emerging as a major emerging economy.
The king is being accompanied by high-level ministerial and business delegations from Spain that wlls strengthen relations in the field of business and other areas. He will visit the cities of Mumbai and Delhi during the visit.
King Carlos I will receive a ceremonial welcome on October 26 in the national capital, Delhi. Indian President Pranab Mukherjee will also host a state banquet in his honour. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Spanish King will also hold delegation level talks in the capital.
He will also meet Vice-President Hamid Ansari, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and will hold talks on various matters in including bilateral, regional and global issues, including the Eurozone crisis.
The trade between the two countries grew to USD 5 billion, higher almost 18 per cent over 2010. The total Spanish investment in India amounts to more than USD 1.3 billion while Indian frms have invested about Euro 605 million in Spain so far.
"Mutually beneficial opportunities for investments by Spanish companies in India exist in a number of sectors such as infrastructure, transport, energy, amongst others," a Ministry of External Affairs statement said.
"The visit of His Majesty is expected to carry forward the process of high-level interaction and deepen the relations between the two countries," the statement added.
